About the 1928A1 Thompson

Produced primarily during the early stages of World War II, the 1928A1 Thompson was a simplified version of the earlier commercial 1928, built for mass military deployment. Furthermore, it was the first type-classified version of the Thompson officially deployed by US forces. It kept many of the signature features of the 1928 model such as the finned barrel, Cutts compensator, top-mounted actuator and drum magazine slot in the receiver. The horizontal foregrip would become standardized and the finish simplified to a black oxide application. Later variants were further simplified into the M1 series.
